"Here Once I Stood"

This weathered stump seemed to be a portrait of Time. The painting was actually finished once, but the foreground did not stand out from the background as intended. A glaze was added to darken most of the background, letting the stump "pop", giving it its rightful place as the focal point of the painting.  Watercolor. Framed to 11" x 14".  $350

"Willy Wagtail at Lough Gur"

On a sunny day next to Lough Gur in Ireland, this sprightly fellow entertained us, hopping cheerfully atop a stone wall. He seemed to want me to paint his portrait.  SOLD

"Lord of the Barnyard"

This regal rooster was spotted in Ireland. The painting began as a demonstration of egg tempera in a watercolor class I taught at the Buchanan Art Center. The addition of egg yoke to the pigment gives this a very different look from my usual watercolors.  SOLD

"House in the North Country"

A sun-dappled scene from Ireland. In looking at this finished painting, I can almost smell the scent of the turf fire in the smoke rising from the chimney. In my painting, I try to create realistic views that give one the feeling that the viewer could step into the scene.  SOLD

"The Reading Tree"

Two children (one barely visible in the shadows) have found a picturesque perch for reading. Interestingly, if they weren't engrossed in their books, they could be looking out at their view--the Grand Canyon from the North Rim! The setting presented a rich subject of textures and contrasts.   NFS

"Holiday Candles"

I originally attempted this painting in pastels. This is the watercolor version, where the real challenge lay in capturing the diffuse light around the candle flames against a dark background.  Watercolor.  $300

"December Milkweed"

December Milkweed is a simple composition which had great possibilities for textures and layering. Using repeated masking, misting, and charging color, the soft depth of the scene gradually emerged.  SOLD
