An art exhibit in the old Birdsell Mansion a few years ago gave me the chance to see the building from the inside for the first time. Although in need of a fortune in repairs and restoration, it did offer a glimpse of what it must have been like in its prime. This fireplace was just one of the striking features of the grand house.
